The best thing you can do is be prepared by always carrying trauma supplies to control bleeding. Most first aid kits you find at West Marine might be good for scrapes, and scratches, but they don’t have trauma equipment.  There are several options you should consider:

  1. Frontline Freediving - Waterman Trauma Kit these first aid kits are the most comprehensive first aid kit for recreational boating. They contain everything for minor injuries to traumatic bleeding control devices.

  1. OMNA Tourniquets – most tourniquets are cumbersome to carry, get lost, and aren’t made to take the abuse of saltwater, and UV rays. OMNA tourniquets are different; they are specifically made for the water, and feature innovative marine materials and design features. Best of all they are  low cost, and wearable. You can comfortably and conveniently attach this tourniquet to a limb, belt, or part of your boat, and not worry about it disappearing.
