Commercial diver, ron Elliot, was bitten by a great white shark recently while di ing for sea urchins. The incident occurred off the Farallon Islands, which are located off the coast of San Francisco, California. Coast Guard units responded to the emergency call, and transported him to Stanford Medical Center. He calls the incident an accident, and claims that he got in the way. In his video above Ron stated, "If I did get bit, the odds of someone being there to help me are next to nil." Therefore, it is recommended for all divers to carry marine tourniquets with them at all times. Self-application of a maritime tourniquet is the best chance of survival of a shark attack according to Dr. Ballas of Reunion Island.
